Ancient city of Alexandria. The biggest and most multicultural metropolis of the declining Roman Empire. A pagan philosopher Synesius, pupil and friend of famous Hypatia, receives a problematic proposition: to become a Christian bishop. In spite of his own disbelief he decides to take the position, hoping to protect himself and his family from persecutions. At the same time the world he knows becomes to tremble, shred into parts by religious and ideological conflicts.
